Our 1st Christmas at CalSAFE 2005

We got the idea from Oprah, she gave out backpacks full of necessities to needy kids in Africa. But we have so many kids who need help right here and the Cal-SAFE School is one block from where I work!
These four girls were working hard to stay in school and make a better life for themselves and their babies. They were also in great need, two where living in group foster homes, so they became the first recipients of our Backpack Program. These backpacks were loaded with school supplies, clothes, baby gifts and basic necessities like soap and toothpaste.
What struck me most when we presented the backpacks to the girls, was the squeal of joy over a small pack of binder paper! Something most kids take for granted.
